Phoenix Energy Products™ Commercial Solar Systems and Solar Power Panels

PEP Solar’s Power Purchase Agreement

In today’s global economy, being green is not only good for the environment it’s good business. If you’re looking for ways to lower your carbon footprint and your energy costs, Phoenix Energy Products offers a fast path to renewable, clean energy for rates equal to or less than what you pay now. Our Power Purchase Agreements, or PPAs, provide complete, affordable solar energy solutions for businesses, government agencies and non-profits.

This tour explains what Phoenix Energy Products PEP Solar PPAs are and how they cover all aspects of adopting solar energy, from design to equipment purchase to on-going management. With PEP Solar PPAs, the only thing you pay for is energy. And whether those energy demands are in the hundreds of kilowatts or the megawatts, PEP PPAs can meet your needs.

DID YOU KNOW?

On September 4, 1882, the Edison Electric Illuminating Company’s one-generator facility delivered the first electricity to 800 light bulbs in homes and businesses. Within 14 months, Edison Electric had 508 subscribers and was lighting up 12,732 bulbs.

What is a PPA?

A Power Purchase Agreement, or PPA, is a long-term contract to buy power from a specific energy provider. Solar PPAs are agreements between a provider and a customer to purchase on-going solar power, usually equal to or less than market rates. Phoenix Energy Products, as a solar PPA provider, installs and maintains solar facilities on customer rooftops or properties. As a solar PPA customer, you pay for solar power—not solar equipment or installation—greatly reducing the risk and complications of implementing a solar energy solution. PPAs are powering the growth of solar, comprising upwards of 75% of all newly constructed commercial, government, and not for profit solar facilities

DID YOU KNOW?

According to the US Department of Energy’s Solar America Initiative, by 2015 solar technology will provide an additional 5-10 gigawatts of electric capacity to the grid. That’s enough energy to power 1 to 2 million homes, and eliminate 10 million metric tons of C02 emissions annually.

What is Solar Energy?

Solar energy is dependable, affordable and easy to distribute, and simple to connect to existing electrical grids. It's also proven, with typical life spans that exceed 30 years. Phoenix Energy Products partners with the large pool of qualified and experienced installers and integrators to implement and manage solar energy systems. All these factors combine to make a PEP Solar PPA a leading option for renewable energy.

DID YOU KNOW?

According to a March 2007 report from the California Energy Commission, California’s energy demands go from 30,000 megawatts during winter and spring to over 60,000 megawatts during summer. The result? Steep increases in utility bills during summer peak hours.

Renewable Energy Provider

Phoenix Energy Products is a renewable energy company that offers solar PPAs. A Phoenix Energy Products PEP Solar PPA comprises all elements of a solar energy solution: we design the system, buy and pay for the equipment, install it, connect it to the electrical grid and provide on-going maintenance. Just give us your roof, parking lot, gently sloped hill or other property, and we do the rest. In exchange, you pay us monthly for the solar energy the system generates at long-term guaranteed rates.

DID YOU KNOW?

Solar panels are up to 80 percent less effective if not properly maintained and cleaned; a little cleaning solves a lot of performance problems.

Solar Energy System Alternatives

There are many solar energy system alternatives. Leasing a solar power system is an option to adopting solar energy. However, customers with leases must operate, maintain, clean and manage the system themselves—and connect it to the grid. In addition, leasing costs are fixed; you’ll pay the same monthly fee no matter what amount of energy your leased system generates. Purchasing a solar facility has all the same drawbacks as leasing, and the customer must find the capital to purchase the system. With a Phoenix Energy Products PEP Solar PPA you pay only for the energy our system generates, and, in addition to all installation and set-up, we manage the system’s maintenance and upkeep.

DID YOU KNOW?

Converting just 50kW of power from gas to solar every month saves 209 pounds of carbon and 766 pounds of carbon dioxide emissions annually. According to the EPA, you would need to plant 38 trees to remove the 766 pounds of carbon dioxide from the air.

Why Use a Solar PPA?

When is a PEP Solar PPA right for you? If you own your building, you are the ideal candidate. Facilitating equipment installation on a rooftop you own, rather than lease, is much simpler. Also solar PPAs usually last 20+ years and are best for organizations that plan to occupy a building long term. Solar PPAs can work for long-term leases with some specific changes to the terms and conditions. Property owners that want to provide affordable and renewable energy to their tenants are also outstanding candidates for solar PPAs.

DID YOU KNOW?

Investment money is rapidly flowing into the solar power market. Clean Edge’s 2007 Clean Energy Trends report notes that the average deal size in the clean energy space was $17 million. An early report from New Energy Finance shows this trend continuing with 2007 first quarter investments in the energy sector totaling roughly $2.2 billion, up 58 percent from the first quarter of 2006. Investments in solar led the way at $514 million.

Solar Energy Equipment Partners

Phoenix Energy Products PPAs provide renewable energy for needs as small as 100 kilowatts up to tens of megawatts of power. Our PEP Solar PPAs serve virtually any organization, including industrial companies, professional sports facilities, schools, municipal and state government agencies, agricultural concerns and high-tech companies. No matter the situation, we have the solar energy equipment that matches your needs.

DID YOU KNOW?

Commercial buildings in California consume 36 percent of the state's electricity and comprise 90 percent of the state’s square footage, according to the Department of General Services.

Solar Power Solutions

Phoenix Energy Products has partnerships with a broad pool of established solar power industry leaders, including installers, construction firms, builders and developers, designers, energy consultants, "green" architectural firms and hardware and technology providers, as well as financial partners investing in renewable energy. We leverage these partnerships to provide the most affordable and longest-lasting renewable solar solutions available, ensuring high-quality, reliable sources of clean energy. A Phoenix Energy Products PEP Solar PPA benefits any type of organization regardless of its tax structure, whether commercial, government or non-profit.

DID YOU KNOW?

A photovoltaic solar array is a linked collection of photovoltaic modules made up of multiple interconnected solar cells. These cells use the photovoltaic effect to convert solar energy into direct current electricity. A single module seldom meets the energy requirements of a home or a business; to create enough power, modules are linked together to form arrays.

Solar Electricity System Timelines

Implementation timelines for a solar electricity system range from a few months to over a year. Phoenix Energy Products’s established relationships with experienced designers, equipment providers and installers significantly accelerate this process. We can bring all the required pieces together quickly and efficiently.

DID YOU KNOW?

Since 1940, the percentage of energy consumed in electric form has quadrupled in the United States. Electricity consumption is expected to grow 45 percent by 2030. (Edison Electric Institute’s Report: Rising Electricity Prices: A National Perspective.)

Solar as a Financial Hedge

With longer solar PPA contract terms, we can offer customers better rates. A Phoenix Energy Products PEP Solar PPA contract generally spans 20+ years. Our goal is always to reach a fair and equitable agreement with our customers and to provide a financial hedge -- using the known electricity costs of solar -- to protect against utility electric rate increases.

DID YOU KNOW?

Good wind resource areas, which cover only about 6% of the contiguous United States’ total land area, could supply more than one and a half times the country’s current electricity consumption.

Future of Renewable Energy

In the future, Phoenix Energy Products PPAs may expand to include other methods of renewable energy, such as renewable energy generated by wind, earth and water. Phoenix Energy Products is ready to adapt to any new form of renewable energy and pass the benefits on to customers in simple, cost-effective solutions.

Government Solar Incentives and Local Solar Rebate Programs

Federal, state and local governments offer outstanding financial incentives encouraging businesses to invest in renewable energy. These incentives lower the cost of a solar system dramatically and can make your project into a profitable investment.

State and Local Rebate Programs

Many states, cities and utility companies have created programs to encourage businesses to switch to solar power. The amount of the rebate varies by program and region, but some cover up to 40% of your system cost. However, these programs reward early adopters of solar power, so the rebate amount per are temporary funds. PEP Solar identifies all qualifying programs for your business and files all city, state, and federal documents to completion.

Federal Tax Credits

The federal government offers a number of solar incentives, including a 30% investment tax credit (ITC) as well as grants for your solar system cost. Also available to your company is accelerated capital depreciation over 5 years, with 50% bonus depreciation for 2009 projects. As part of the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) http://www.azcommerce.com/recovery.htm, the Obama  administration has proposed several grant programs for renewable energy expected to help fund solar integration projects.

NOTE:

RRA allows businesses the option to receive grants from the Treasury Department to offset 30% of the cost of a solar power system. This grant will operate like the Section 48 Investment Tax Credit (ITC). The Treasury Department will issue a grant in an amount equal to 30% of the cost of the renewable energy facility within 60 days of the facility being placed in service.

Additional Information on Solar Incentive Programs:

  • Incentive programs vary considerably from state to state. Find out more about programs in your area by visiting the Database of State Incentives for Renewable Energy (DSIRE).
  • In Arizona, rebates are administered through the Arizona Commerce. Depending on the size of your project, you will qualify for either an upfront rebate or a Performance Based Incentive (PBI). The upfront rebate is offered for systems less than 100 kW in size. The PBI is intended for larger systems and pays out based on energy production over the course of ten years.
